Abstract

In an increasingly interconnected world, the intersection of religious freedom and human rights has become a critical focal point for scholars, policymakers, and advocates alike. This paper examines the multifaceted challenges and opportunities that arise within this nexus, exploring how religious beliefs and practices intersect with broader notions of human rights across diverse cultural, social, and political contexts. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, this study analyzes the tensions between religious freedom and other fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ rights. Furthermore, it examines the role of religious institutions, governments, and international organizations in safeguarding and promoting religious freedom while upholding human rights standards. Drawing on case studies from various regions, the paper identifies promising practices and innovative approaches for addressing conflicts and promoting dialogue between different religious communities and secular entities. By fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities inherent in the relationship between religious freedom and human rights, this paper aims to contribute to the development of more inclusive and rights-respecting policies and practices on a global scale.
